Health, Habits & Highlights: May
Wow! May was a good one. I feel like it just zipped by! I feel like a lot happened in May, but now I'm having a hard time remembering it all!
So far, May has been my most productive month as far as reading goes. I read four books and officially doubled my yearly total. I have a feeling I will be reading more than twelve books this year.
The books I read:
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis - A must read for all believers. You don't really realize that those thoughts & feelings (you know the ones) are actual attacks from the enemy. Will definitely be a book I read every so often.
Make It Happen by Lara Casey - This so far has been my absolute favorite book I've read this year and it will be very difficult to top. I alternated between crying my eyes out to feeling like I could take on the world. I will probably do a book review on this later on.
Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb - I did a review of this one in a previous post, but definitely an interesting read. Usually the 'problem' is actually a symptom of an even deeper issue.
Star Wars: Darth Plagueis by James Luceno - Okay this one was just for fun, because reading doesn't always have to be a serious thing. For anyone who is interested in Star Wars lore, especially in the prequel era (which is my favorite era & I'm not ashamed to admit it), this novel gives a lot of background info on Palpatine and his rise to power.
I'm going to be really honest with you: May was not a good month for my verses. I didn't make them a priority, and they ended up falling through the cracks. But this doesn't mean give up! It just means I need to work extra hard to make up for it :)
These are the May verses I am currently working on:
Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. Pslam 6:2
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. Proverbs 3:7-8
This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who obey his commands and remain faithful to Jesus. Revelation 14:12
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:29
Even youths grow tired & weary and young men stumble & fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run & not grow weary, they will walk & not be faint. Isaiah 40:30-31
So.... for May we decided to go against our normal early Saturday morning 5K and try an evening "glow run".... and it did not go well. I'm not sure exactly if it was the number of people or just poor organization, but we it was a mess. Since it was a night time run, they had to wait until it got dark (makes sense) around 8:30 to start. However, unlike most 5Ks I have done, they did not let everyone start all at once. Instead, they let small waves through at a time. We waited in like for approximately 45 minutes and had about 20 or so minutes left to wait in line BEFORE STARTING THE RACE, and then decided it wasn't worth it and went home. We promised to each do a 5K on our own at home, so we all got in our 5Ks in May (plus we still had our Glow Run shirts and numbers as trophies). I think from now on I'm going to stick with the morning runs :)
Meal prepping (as seen on my last post) has become much easier and a part of my weekly life. It has made planning less daunting and grocery shopping much easier! I will probably keep up the same meals for another month or so before switching things up.
For the past few weeks, I have been really dedicated to working out three times a week. Thankfully our apartment complex has a gym, so it is harder to make excuses. Though I still don't love it as others claim they do, I'm starting to get used to it being a part of my life and do not actively fight against it.
Finally got to go outside and hang out by the pool and work on my tan (I'm no longer fluorescent!)
Escaped from a rather creepy room
Tried my hand at trivia night at a local restaurant (definitely have some knowledge gaps to work on!)
I'm excited for June and what new, fun & exciting things await!
Have Fun. Be Safe. Make Good Choices.
